Academic Year Programs - September through May

Toddler Program
Ages: 18 to 36 months
Program Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday - Friday

Cornerstone's Toddler Program supports the emerging development of 10 toddlers with two teachers and a part time lunch and nap assistant in their own "Toddler House". This unique program was designed to fit the need for quality toddler care for working families, and implements the Montessori philosophy and methodology for infancy and toddlers. The curriculum of our Toddler Program follows the developmental continuum for this age group, including early language development; practice with appropriate social skills; introduction and competency with self care; and readiness for transition to preschool by 36 months.

The Preschool Program at Cornerstone follows the Montessori Method of Early Childhood Education and provides a nurturing environment for self discovery and growth for all members of our classroom. We have 3 preschool classrooms, each have approximately 30 children with 3 full time staff members (typically 2 trained Montessori teachers with 1 trained teaching assistant). Each classroom is a distinct community, having classroom time, lunch, nap or rest, and playground time together. The arrangement and times of the programs offered in our preschool programs have grown from the needs expressed by the families we serve. The preschool curriculum closely follows the principles of Montessori education with areas of learning in practical living, sensorial, math, language, science, and art. Our holistic approach to education is evident as we support the opportunities for development socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally for each child.

Spanish Immersion Program
Ages 4 ½ to 5 years
Program Schedule Minimum: 5 mornings & 2 afternoons

The Spanish Immersion Program at Cornerstone began September 2005 with the intention of supporting the early acquisition of comprehension of a spoken secondary language (Spanish) through classroom instruction. This program has since grown to include the opportunities for practice in acquiring skills with both spoken and written second language. Our Spanish Immersion students are age 4 ½ by September of the school year enrolled, have had prior Montessori experience, and are selected for this program through teacher and parent recommendation. The Spanish Immersion Program currently is offered in connection with our Pre-K and Kindergarten Program, although we do anticipate the program will grow in such a way as to be included in all Preschool classrooms, as well. The Spanish Immersion Program curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate activities presented initially in English then in Spanish, the children then have the opportunity to pursue those activities in either Spanish or English.

Kindergarten Program
Ages: 5 by October 1 of school year enrolled
Program Schedule Minimum: 5 mornings & 3 afternoons

Kindergarten at Cornerstone is the culmination of the three year cycle in preprimary Montessori Education, in addition to a practical experience preparing for 1st grade. The Kindergarten curriculum strongly focuses on literacy, math, and skills necessary for elementary school (i.e., handwriting, completion of assignments, as well as self organization). Developmentally Kindergarten age children are prepared for a full day learning experience, and love to balance their day between academics and social activities. Enrichment activities such as field trips and creative dramatic workshops round out the Kindergarten experience, as well. In addition, our Kindergarten class is included within the structure of the Spanish Immersion Program. Our Kindergarten teacher is credentialed and licensed through the Colorado Department of Education.
